Head Coach Dan Flannery

Head Coach Dan Flannery has been the head coach of the AHS the boys program since 1998 and the girls swim program since 2002.

Coach Flannery was a member of the Iowa State University Men's Swim team and captain for the 1998 season. He was a member of the Big 8 Championship team in 1995 and the undefeated team in 1998. Coach Flannery was a high school All-American in the 200 Freestyle and swam for Johnston High School in Des Moines. Dan and his wife, Jodi, have three children, Joe, Tommy, and Leah.

Assistant Coach Joe Fisher

Assistant Coach Joe Fisher has been a coach of the AHS girls and boys programs since 2013.

Coach Fisher was a member of the Iowa State University Men’s Swim team with Coach Flannery during ISU’s undefeated season in 1998 and was selected as a captain for the 1999 season. Coach Fisher was a three time State Meet Champion in 1995 recording All-American times in the 200 Freestyle, 100 Freestyle, and 400 Freestyle Relay while swimming for Ames High School under Hall of Fame Coach Mike Wittmer. He was selected by the Iowa High School Swim Coaches as the Iowa Swimmer of the year in 1995. Coach Fisher was inducted into the Ames High School Hall of Fame in 2007 and the Iowa Swim Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2009. He currently owns and operates several Subway restaurants in and around the Ames area. He and his wife Brenda have four children, Lauren, Josh, Chris, and Ryan.

Assistant Coach Kean Roberts

Assistant Coach Kean Roberts rejoins the Ames High School swimming coaching staff after a short hiatus to finish his education. Coach Roberts is an Ames High alumnus.
